In my early sixties and still alive and kicking
My name is Nico Waaijer, I live in the Netherlands and last June I hit the 62. While many people my age are making plans to quit their careers, I like to stay in business and work with younger people. Furthermore, I am also pretty active: playing tennis every Friday night, playing 18-holes golf 2-3 times a week and sometimes, and if more free time is available, you can find me in a fitness center.
Enjoying my third career
When I was twenty-one, I started my career in business IT and for the last 8 years, I was MD of subsidiaries in the Netherlands of an international ICT company. As a result of a management buy-out, I started my second career at the age of 50 as an interim manager, in which role I was able to fill in several very interesting management jobs for different companies.
For more than 5 years I am working now with my eldest daughter, who is my business partner in a prosperous recruitment agency for accountant positions, called mPloyed. And I am working together with my youngest son Sybre, being his advisor, his coach, his financier and his personal manager. And for sure, I love my third career!
Proud of my family
In 1981 I married a beautiful lady from Curaçao, then part of the Netherlands Antilles. Still together we are very proud of our 4 children, their spouses, and our four grandchildren. Also, our other kids are making the best out of life and out of their careers.
Novice on blogging and SEO
During my study at the end of the seventies, I still worked with punch cards and paper tape. In the early eighties, my company bought their first PCs. And in the early nineties, I was stunned by a new phenomenon called the internet. But I was a fast student and quickly adapted myself to the new possibilities. And I still am trying to be an early adaptor. I became a super fan of Apple, of Philips Hue and comparable. During the last years, I have made several WordPress websites, including mPloyed.nl. And I am enjoying it.
But I am still a starter on blogging and SEO. So let’s make this happen!
